Nationwide rewards loyal Visa debit and credit card customers

From 1 February 2012, Nationwide Building Society is launching a new selection of offers through Simply Rewards, a reward scheme providing savings on major brands, available exclusively for its Visa debit and credit card customers.

Visa debit and credit card customers can access the discounts by logging on to the Simply Rewards website. There is no registration, no points to collect or fees to pay, so customers dont have to wait to take advantage of the offers. Around 250,000 Nationwide customers have already visited the Simply Rewards site since the first round of offers was launched three months ago, with many taking advantage of the great deals on offer.

Some examples of the deals on offer:

Carluccios – Free bottle of wine when two dine Holiday Inn – 35% off best flexible rates Wickes – 10% off when you spend £200+

Other discounts from providers such as Butlins, Urban Outfitters, Gourmet Society, Kwik Fit, aka Promotions (West End Theatre) and Virgin Holidays will also be available at the Simply Rewards website.

Do No Spend Challenges Work?

Many personal finance bloggers participate in no spend challenges or count their no spend days as a way to rein in the budget and save more money. I once tried a version of a no-spend challenge / shopping hiatus (it was called C.A.S.H. and focused exclusively on clothes, shoes, and accessories) back in 2008, but gave up after 4 months. I have never tried a completely cold-turkey no-spend challenge. Lately, though, Ive been feeling a little disillusioned and discouraged with the long road to financial freedom, and as I look around my apartment at the hundreds of dollars worth of items that are unused or, gasp never used, Im wondering if I should give this no spend challenge a try.

Will it turn me into a better saver? A more thoughtful consumer?

Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford Snubbed for Cam Newton in Pro Bowl

 

The Detroit Lions first 10-win season since 1995 was cut short with a loss to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Wild Card game of the NFL playoffs. But, Detroit Lions fans thought they had a new reason to be excited – the upcoming NFL Pro Bowl later this week.

Since 2010, the NFL Pro Bowl game has been moved up and played one week before the Super Bowl to both increase the momentum going into the Super Bowl and decrease the idea that the Pro Bowl is an afterthought of the NFL season.

The New York Giants continued their improbable Super Bowl run by knocking out the San Francisco 49ers by a field goal (20-17) with a 31-yard overtime boot by kicker Lawrence Tynes. In so doing, the Giants inadvertently gave Detroit fans a reason to cheer, or at least we thought so…
